The watchdog said its latest Financial Lives survey showed that 27% of UK adults or about 14 million people, have used BNPL at least once in the six months to January 2023, up from 17% in the 12 months to May 2022. BNPL is offered over a short period to shoppers who buy to clothes or other retail goods. Frequent users were more likely to be in financial difficulty and to have missed a payment of a bill or credit commitment, the FCA said.

The sports platform's new business division, which is called Fanatics Live, is centered around live shopping experiences during which users will be able to buy trading cards and other collectibles on the Fanatics Live app while watching streams of hosts and other collector sellers. "Our intention is to have Fanatics Live be the leader in the live commerce space," Bell said. Livestream shopping, which got its start in China and across Asia, has grown into a $512 billion market, according to Coresight Research. Bell acknowledged the challenges for livestream shopping in the U.S. but said he sees them as an opportunity.

The Gen Z paradoxGen Z's economic power is growing faster than other generations, according to Bank of America. In the US, fashion is the preferred category for entertainment spending among Gen Z, outranking dining out, video games, and music. A 2021 McKinsey survey found that 42% of American Gen Zers said they didn't even know what makes clothes sustainable. In addition to pushing people to buy more clothes, the buy-now, think-later model of live shopping also encourages people to buy clothes that are worse for the planet. To solve that problem, she founded Viviene New York in 2022, a Gen Z-led marketing agency that helps sustainable brands connect with Gen Z audiences through social media.
But American consumers have yet to take to live shopping in the same way. In 2016, the e-commerce giant Alibaba launched Taobao Live, popularizing live shopping in China. Alongside Poshmark, QVC’s parent company Qurate recently started Sune, a live shopping app targeting Gen Z. Last year, Walmart, YouTube and eBay added or expanded their live shopping features. “In a very few short months, they’re proving that this form of live shopping works,” he added, referring to Posh Shows sellers like Ms. Lazovic.
But my e-commerce success really started after I launched my coffee accessories brand, Kaffe, on Amazon in mid-2019. I spent day and night thinking about the best way to position the coffee grinder so it would get to the top of Amazon's rankings. My sales started to grow. Amazon has its own coffee grinder that it sells under its Amazon Basics private label, and it retails for a couple of dollars less than Kaffe's does. On Amazon, you're either growing, or you're really dying, and the fees will eat you alive if you're not doing any volume.

A California company is recalling 2 million Cosori air fryers, US product safety officials announced Thursday. The recalled air fryers were reported as "catching fire, burning, melting." "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and contact Cosori to receive their choice of a free replacement air fryer or another Cosori product," the commission said. The agency said a "wire connection in the air fryers can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards." About 2 million of the air fryers have been sold in the US, while about 250,000 were sold in Canada and 21,000 in Mexico.
Live shopping in the US is expected to become a $25 billion market in 2023. Livestream shopping has been popular in China for over a decade, where the industry was estimated to be worth $305 billion in 2021, up from $63 billion in 2019, according to Coresight Research. Livestream shopping took China by storm over the past three years. In the U.S., TikTok, Amazon, Walmart , Shopify and YouTube are all getting in on the game. On Amazon Live, influencers pitch products live from the intimacy of their own homes. Michael Burry, known for calling the subprime mortgage crisis, picked up a slew of stocks in the fourth quarter including two Chinese internet giants, according to a new regulatory filing. The famed investor bought $9.3 million worth of mortgage data vendor Black Knight last quarter, as well as $5.3 million worth of Coherent , a manufacturer of optical materials and semiconductors. Burry also bought into a duo of Chinese e-commerce leaders — Alibaba and JD.com — during the fourth quarter. Burry was depicted in Michael Lewis' book "The Big Short" and the subsequent Oscar-winning movie of the same name. It's also unclear if Burry took any bearish bets last quarter, as short positions are not disclosed in these reports.

Fanatics Live, which will have a standalone app and a coinciding website, plans to launch in the second half of 2023. Only 31% of U.S. adults have even heard of live shopping, with just 22% saying they've participated in a live shopping event, according to a December poll by Morning Consult. Ebay, which said it saw trading card sales increase 142% in 2020, acquired trading card marketplace TCGPlayer for $295 million in August. While Fanatics Live could move into other forms of entertainment and collectibles over time, it will solely focus on trading cards initially.

So, it was only natural that Ms. Dube turned to TikTok to document her exasperation at not being able to find another bottle. Viewers often can click a link to buy an item right away, making the shopping experience nearly seamless—if the product is in stock. Charlotte Tilbury has sought to adapt its supply chain to respond to customer demand as products go viral, a company spokesperson said. “We do our best to hold enough stock to get us through moments like these,” Ms. Schakler said.
